Saul Bass
The Saul Bass style is a unique style that takes simplistic images made up of jagged lines and block colours to create title sequences and film posters. We have been researching saul bass as part of our brief in order to start to create our own title sequence in the same style.
Research
This is my mood board of research in to Saul Bass. I have gathered about 15 different film posters that were all created in the Saul Bass style. This was the first thing that we were asked to do in this unit.

The second task that we were asked to complete was to develop our writing style by drawing the title of any film in the Saul Bass style. I chose to use Lord Of The Rings and these are my versions of the Saul Bass style. i enjoyed drawing these in the saul bass style because i found it simple and easy to draw and i felt at ease because it didn't have to be perfect.
After we had developed our drawn a range of Saul Bass fonts we went on to the computer and downloaded different fonts to see witch ones looked the best with the final film title. i chose these six fonts because i thought that they looked bold simple and stuck to the jaged style of Saul Bass.
once we had found the computer generates fonts it was time to experiment with creating our own on illastraghter. I found that creating fonts on the computer was quite difficult and i struggled to make them vary in style so they all look similar. I practiced on Illastraghter using two different film titles because i couldn't decide between the two.

These are the simplified sketches of the characters from Alice in wonderland.
We continued with the character development by recreating the characters on the computer to create the final images that were going to be used in the title sequence. Once we had made the basic character we then coped it 5 times and changed something about it each time eg face expression or colours. i found creating the characters quiet difficult because i wanted to use the geometric shapes bit they didn't fit to the Saul Bass style. But I managed to create some good characters.
after all of that was done we moved on to creating the story board. I drew multiple story boards before i was happy with it because I couldn't decide how to incorporate all of the characters in to the opening credits so it flowed.
The final stage was to create a digital version of the story board on illastraghter. Recreating the storyboard on illistraghter was relatively easy because i had created most of the characters that i was going to use.But i took ages recreating Alice in the Saul Bass style. I struggled to decide on a colour skeme for my storyboard because my original plan of doing it blue and white didnt look very good because all of the characters blended so i decided to use black, red, green and pink.

The forth task was character development we had to create a mood board and sketches of possible characters that could be used in the opening title sequence in a simplistic style. I chose to do alice in wonderland because i could see a lot of potential with characters and how i could get them to all interact with each other. the characters that i cose to use were the card, hatter, cheesier cat, alice, Queen of heats and more. this is my mood board and brain storm of characters.
